Decorations at the Senior Picnic
(5/16/2012)

Tuesday was the last possible day for exams. That means Wednesday began the events leading up to graduation on Saturday! The first of these was the Senior picnic, where students and faculty could gather for some barbecue and celebration. I particularly liked the decorations. I couldn’t stay long, however, since I was hosting the Senior Chemistry get-together at my place that afternoon.

Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about providing food and snacks since the department had managed to sign up for an array of small dishes. Nonetheless, I wasn’t surprised to find an abundance of chips and soda as people began arriving. Thanks to a couple of my friends, we were able to take advantage of the weather and host the event outside. The afternoon featured cornhole, some ping pong, and Frisbee games. I made full use of my camera, and tripod, to catch a couple photos of the group. It was really nice to be able to spend time with all the Chemistry professors and the graduating Chemistry students away from the Science Building. We’ve tried a number of times to get everyone together, but during the semester it’s nearly impossible to find even a single night that everyone can agree upon.

Although the professors had to return to their families around dinnertime, the senior events were not yet over. Many of us hung around until just before the Senior Gala began at nine. It was fun getting dressed up and heading to a less formal, college version of a high school prom. The Gala even turned out better than I expected, with plenty of people attending and even dancing. It’s strange to think that so many of my friends will no longer be a five minute walk away from my apartment, although I’m confident that I’ll see quite a few of them in the next year. Bittersweet!
