Day 15: Alamance Battleground State Historic Site

The world reflected on a clover

Although the drizzly weather that greeted me this morning wasn’t what I’d hoped for, my adventure plans were fortunately not foiled. In fact, the rainy weather ended up aiding in my photo for today! Alamance Battleground, located a mere ten miles from Elon, turned out to be a gem. The site features the location of what some call the first battle of the American Revolution, the Battle of Alamance. In 1771, Governor William Tryon marched about 1,000 militia troops against the ‘regulators’ who were rebelling in response to the abuse of English leaders, namely unjust taxation and local control. Besides the field that hosted the battle, the site includes the historic Allen house and a visitor center manned by terrific guides. I’ll have to post my other favorite pictures from today in an extras post, despite the terrible lighting and bland sky, I really enjoyed photographing the site (more photos). I’m already excited to go back for their next battle reenactment in May!

Continue on to more photos from my Project 365 here or read about My Rules if you’re interested in starting your own!

For anyone in the area, take a few hours and visit!
